Vassar High School Government Students Vote in National Student Mock Election VASSAR HIGH SCHOOL – Mrs. Heinlein’s Government students took part in a national mock election on October 24, 2024. Students used a state-of-the art online voting system as they participated in a mock election program sponsored by the Youth Leadership Initiative (YLI), a national civic education program based at the University of Virginia Center for Politics. Millions of students have voted in YLI Mock Elections making it the largest secure, student-only online mock election in the nation. STUDENT QUOTES: “The upcoming election is going to be life-altering. No matter what the outcome is, lives will be changed or destroyed, moral decency ignored, and the truth violated. Personally, I am very scared for the election and how the public will react to the outcome.” --Sophomore “I wonder who will win the election overall and in Michigan. Michigan is a big swing state with democratic big cities and small republican towns. Most of Michigan is Republican, but the densely populated areas are Democrat.” -- Senior “I’m mad because I am one year from voting and can’t vote in this election.” --Senior “I like that we had a mock election. I think voting is very important and it’s good to have an understanding of the process. I don’t like any of the presidential candidates, they don’t respect each other and it shows. I’d prefer one over the other, but to be honest I just wish we’d have better candidates.” -- Senior “I think the election is going to be very close and very scary.” --Senior Results of the YLI National Mock Election will be available the morning of Monday, November 1, 2024.

🎉🤫 Shhh... It's been an Underground Staff Spirit Week here at Vassar Public Schools, and it’s been a blast! Our amazing K-12 staff came together for a week of fun and laughter, all while keeping our students guessing about what was happening. 🕵️‍♂️👀 Here’s a peek at our spirit-filled days: 🟫 Monday - Mad About Plaid: We started strong by rocking our favorite plaid—subtle, yet statement-worthy! 🍁 Tuesday - Season/Holiday Fun: Our staff got crafty by celebrating different seasons and holidays (minus Halloween)! 🥤 Wednesday - Anything But a Cup Day: Sipping coffee and water from anything but a cup? Challenge accepted! We saw everything from teapots to PE cones— 🏈 Thursday - Pro-Sports Team & Jeans: Our halls were filled with team spirit as staff showed off their favorite pro-sports gear or dressing up for the MS Halloween dance in their Inside Out costumes! 🎃 Friday - Game Day & Festivities: We are finally letting students in on the fun! A friendly MSU/UM showdown for the 6-12 building, plus a dash of Halloween spirit for K-5—what a perfect way to wrap up the week! A huge thank you to everyone for participating and building such amazing camaraderie across the district. We can’t wait to share more laughs and memories together! 🧡🖤🤍

Yesterday, our 10th-grade students visited the MiCareerQuest event. The event provided students with the opportunity to engage with interactive displays highlighting diverse career pathways and talk to employers about the skills and education required for success in their respective fields. Several employers from key industry sectors in Michigan provided students with an interactive, hands-on experience to learn about various Michigan careers that are high in demand.
