We're thrilled to share some fantastic news from Tuesday night's Board Meeting! Chase Parker (7th) and Amanda Madar (Parapro) were honored by Patty McNinch from the Tuscola Conservation District for their incredible achievement. Chase, with the invaluable assistance of Mrs. Madar, submitted a poster for the 2023 competition, and it has garnered national recognition! What's even more remarkable is that Chase's submission, which includes both texture and braille, has sparked significant changes in the poster contest rules and procedures at both state and national levels. Thanks to their efforts, two new categories have been added to the poster contest at a national level, ensuring accessibility for all students. Chase and Amanda, your dedication and innovation have not only made a difference in the competition but have paved the way for a more inclusive future. A special thank you to Chase's team, Jamie Gorleski (Braille Transcriber) and Jen Krueger (Teacher Consultant for the Visually Impaired). We couldn't be prouder of your hard work and the positive impact you've made!

Ryan will be enriching his Advanced Reading course with two new sets of graphic novels, while Laurie will be providing her students with a classroom set of MI History for Kids magazines along with purchasing printer supplies. These resources will undoubtedly make a significant impact on student learning experiences. Congratulations to you both!

On Saturday, March 9th, the Vassar Middle School and High School Bands went to the MSBOA District 5 Band and Orchestra Festival. The bands performed music they spent months preparing for three judges, then sightread a piece of music they had never seen before. The Middle School Concert band earned a rating of "Good" from the concert judges and a rating of "Excellent" from the sight reading judge. The High School Symphonic band earned a rating of "Excellent" from the concert judges and a rating of "Good" from the sight reading judge. To earn high ratings, students must perform their music at better than 95%, and these students worked incredibly hard. Great job Vulcan Pride Band!

On Friday, March 8th, we had the Fatal Vision Pedal cars at our school with the help of Michigan State Police, Vassar Schools, and the Vassar Police Department. The purpose of these cars was to teach our students about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The students and staff got an opportunity to pedal the cars while wearing special glasses and try to avoid hitting cones and staying on the road.
