What is a non-homestead renewal and restoration millage? A non-homestead renewal and restoration millage supports the school district’s general operating budget. The operating budget covers everything necessary to provide educational programs and services in Vassar Public Schools. The non-homestead replacement millage is not levied on primary residences (the home in which a homeowner lives); it only applies to businesses, second homes, vacant land, and rental property. All school districts in Michigan must levy 18 mills on non-homestead property to receive their full foundation allowance. In all Michigan school districts, the 18 mill non-homestead levy is subject to rollbacks per the Headlee Amendment to the Michigan Constitution. While school districts cannot levy more than 18 mills on non-homestead property, Vassar Public Schools is requesting approval of an additional .5 mill non-homestead levy to protect against future rollbacks when they occur.

The second proposal on the February 27 ballot is a 10-year, non-homestead renewal and restoration millage proposal. This millage does not impact the taxes on primary residences (the home in which a homeowner lives).

Today Central celebrated the positive behaviors of 2nd marking period. Students were given over 6000 tickets and had their names randomly drawn for hockey tickets, a bike, sleds, Zehnder Splash Village tickets, and Bavarian Inn tickets. True Value Be a Star students were recognized as well as those students who are Kind Kids.

Hello Vulcans! Tomorrow Thursday, January 25, will be half days for all students. Students will have an early dismissal and there will be no Tech Center.

Good Evening Vulcans! Due to potentially dangerous driving conditions, Vassar Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, January 24, 2024. Decisions about sporting events and extracurriculars will be made around 1 pm tomorrow. Due to the closure, Vassar Public Schools will now have a half day on Monday, January 29 to accommodate the 6-12 exam schedule. Students will still have a half day on Thursday of this week and no school on Friday. Stay warm and stay safe Vulcans!

Hello Vulcans! Wednesday, January 24, and Thursday, January 25, will be half days for students. There will be no Tech Center. Remember there is no school for students on Friday, January 26, because it is a Teacher Work Day.

Due to potentially dangerous driving conditions, Vassar Public Schools will be closed today, Tuesday, January 23, 2024. Decisions about sporting events and extracurriculars will be made around 1pm.
